Principles of SOLE
For Bangladeshi youth and young adults to help with the cost for every level of schooling, including primary school.
Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will require a completed application from applicants. The organization also will require reporting/receipts to show that the funds distributed directly to the students are used for educational purposes.
Applications and scholarship information will be made available via the Internet once Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership has its website developed and on-line. Other virtual advertisements may be used for promotional purposes.
Program promotions will be made by the organization’s website (in development), through word-of-mouth, social media websites, as well as through collaborations with other nonprofits.

No professional fundraising is planned. Funding will be sought through grants and individual/corporate sponsorships. The board of directors and others interested in supporting the work of the organization will develop and implement direct solicitations and grant requests as interest can be identified. On-line contributions will be facilitated at the website once developed. The organization will comply with regulatory requirements for on-line donations as they are developed. No materials have been developed at this time.
Tasks at hand can be challenging for a native English speaker and for someone navigating these processes by themselves, but an added language barrier makes it increasingly difficult. This education will be provided both in person and virtually.
As the nonprofit expands and as funds allow, the organization will begin pairing mentors and mentees that speak the same language to further ease any difficulties that these individuals may face due to a language barrier. BPSL will provide English language lessons in the future as well. Further, if the organization cannot provide assistance to an individual on what they might need help with, such as in legal situations, the nonprofit will refer them to other resources that can assist refugees in these situations.
Additionally, the organization will host gatherings, including global summits, for refugees and asylum seekers to share their experiences and to learn from each other. The purposes of these events will be to provide inspiration for these individuals to overcome the challenges they have faced, and to improve the life they are living to the point where they can live independently. While the gatherings will be hosted on a monthly basis, the summit while be held twice a year over the course of a two day period.
Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will not charge for its educational programs to eliminate cost as an accessibility barrier for refugees.

Scholarships for Deserving Students.
A) The activity being conducted is: Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership (BPSL) has been organized to provide scholarships and tuition assistance for deserving students. More specifically, the organization will provide scholarships to refugees in the United States pursuing higher education, as well as provide tuition assistance for individuals in Bangladesh. By conducting this activity, BPSL will assist youth and young adults with the cost of education, thus improving their chances for success in the future.
B) Who conducts the activity: The board of directors will oversee the general implementation of this activity. It may hire staff as may be necessary to successfully implement the programs and plans. See the attached proposed budgets and job descriptions for possible staff to be hired. Volunteers may also be recruited to further sustain the organization’s programs. A selection committee will be appointed for the organization’s scholarship program.
C) When the activity is conducted: Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will operate ongoing throughout the year. Scholarships and tuition assistance will be provided as needs are assessed and identified, and as funds are available.
The board will meet as needed to discuss administrative and financial matters, set hiring practices, approve staffing and program development, and set compensation
E) The activity furthers the following exempt purpose: Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will provide educational programs for refugees in the United States and in Bangladesh on topics including, but not limited to the qualities of an effective leader, life skills including getting a driver’s license, as well as will share motivational stories from former refugees. Therefore, the organization qualities for an educational purpose under IRC Section 501(0(3), the instruction or training of individuals for the purpose of improving or developing their capabilities.
F) The percentage of time allocated to the activity is: 50.00%
G) Related literature to support this activity: No materials have been developed at this time.
H) Additional Information: Refugees that immigrate to new countries often do so quickly and without preparation. In many cases, these individuals find themselves in a new country without the job skills or resources necessary to find and maintain gainful employment that would allow them to begin an independent lifestyle. This difficult transition becomes all the more challenging when the refugee has fled from their home country due to long standing conflict or wars, and has suffered traumatic experiences due to this. For this reason, Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will provide education to Bangladeshi refugees on a variety of topics to help ease their transition into the United States, as well as to help instill in them a sense of independence and leadership.
Education will be provided both in person and virtually. The in person programs will initially be held in Michigan, though their location may expand to other states and across the country as interest is identified and as funds are available. The virtual programs will be accessible to individuals still residing in Bangladesh before immigrating to the United States.
Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will accomplish its mission of easing Bangladesh refugees transitions into living in a new country, as well as of instilling leadership qualities into these individuals, through three different sectors of its activity.The first program, entitled Leadership Club, will be for middle school aged students. Youth, in groups of between five and ten, will work hands on to identify an issue within the local community, such as trash in a park or chipped paint on a trail’s mile markers, and will be challenged to remedy the issue using a creative solution. While a large focus of BPSL’s programs will be on creating future leaders, the Leadership Club program will also emphasize the importance of good communication and teamwork. Additionally, this activity will bring awareness to the community of the positive impact that refugees have in this area. An annual ceremony will be held to share the successes of the program, and discuss the skills that young refugees have gained.
Further, BPSL will provide education to and mentor refugees from Bangladesh in a program called Leadership Training. This program will be open to any individual that is a refugee, or any family of refugees. The organization will assist these individuals with various necessities for living in the United States, such as applying for an apartment, getting a work authorization card, or taking a driver’s license exam. These

Its education will also be provided digitally for individuals in Bangladesh. The organization does not have any contracts or lease agreements currently in place for a facility from which its activities could be conducted. However, the organization’s board of directors is currently seeking a suitable facility or site for operations. Once a facility is identified, the board of directors will negotiate terms and conditions for the use of said space that will be beneficial to the operations of the organization. The organization may also rent venues for its programs, should its facility not be suitable for the size or intent of its events.
Regular board meetings and administrative duties will be performed from donated space at the homes or offices of board members and volunteers as needed in order to manage the day-to-day operations and without cost to the organization.

G) Related literature to support this activity: Materials, including a scholarship application, have been developed at this time.
H) Additional Information: While many students may wish to pursue a higher education, often times the cost of education holds them back from doing so. For some, there may be other barriers in the way, such as a language barrier or lack of opportunity. Financial aid, including tuition assistance and scholarships, can make a large difference in the annual cost of education. Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership will assist refugees living in America as well as Bangladeshi individuals with the cost of education through the provision of scholarships and tuition assistance.
Bangaleer Patshala – School of Leadership’s scholarship and tuition assistance awards will assist selected students with the amount of $200 per student, per year. While the organization anticipates receiving 100 applications a year for scholarships and tuition assistance, it will provide scholarships and tuition assistance to a total of 30 individuals a year. The organization will provide scholarships and tuition assistance to individuals it believes could truly benefit from it–the individuals that have fallen through the cracks. Maybe these youth receive a GPA just under the requirements for other scholarship programs, or have difficulty with test taking. These individuals may participate in a sport, or extracurricular activity for recreational purposes, but are not some of the top players or performers. The scholarships will be provided to individuals fitting this outline who are refugees living in the United States and who are pursuing a higher education, whereas tuition assistance will be provided.
